I have always been active but had reached a stage where fitness was a chore, repetitive and there was nothing at the end of it to keep me interested.
Around three and a half years ago I returned from an overseas break which included lots of walking and was keen to continue.
The thing that held me back was I didn’t feel confident or safe walking tracks by myself.
Women’s Fitness Adventures popped up on my Facebook. I hopped online, liked what I saw and booked a morning hike before I could overthink it and change my mind.
Nowadays, my fitness focus centres around what I need to do so that when I do go hiking or get involved in any other activities there is a REASON to be doing it.
When you are prepared for an adventure it, you enjoy it so much more.
I summited Mt Kosciousko 2 years ago with the group. Okay…. not Nepal, but a big deal for me and a great trip. I look back on my photos and marvel that I completed this – in snow!
I’ve met so many women who are chasing the same things as me – such a great thing to be forming new social circles.
My other big achievement is bounding out of bed early in the mornings for a hike.. I hate early rises but the prospect of a hike with the girls will see me up early every time. My husband is amazed!
I realised that if I didn’t make the time, no one would make it for me.
We are all responsible for our own happiness. You don’t want to reach a stage where you think “ If only I had done that years ago”.
When you participate in anything Women’s Fitness Adventures has to offer you’re usually up early – the very best time of the day; no makeup or hairdo required ; the most comfortable boots to wear; shorts and tee shirt – we all look the same; lots of chat; there is No winner and NO loser – we go at our own pace and if you need a push up the hill there is always someone to offer.
At the end of the session I always think- what a great morning; I’m so pleased I did that.
I would say to any woman thinking about getting active in the outdoors – don’t overthink it. Try just one session.
On my first session I was worried I would be at the end of the pack. Turns out there was a girl I had been to school with and we talked the whole way.
To this day I never worry that I may not know anyone – everyone is so friendly.

Joining Women’s Fitness has bought another dimension to my life – being in my 50’s that is a pretty big deal
