When Sharon’s stable life plan skewed dramatically here is what she did..

Sharon

When my husband of 30 years decided I wasn’t his type, my seemingly secure, stable life plan skewed dramatically.

My sister-in-law, knowing that I had an interest in hiking. She knew I  was in need of support, mentioned that a friend of hers had started a women’s fitness group. I joined up and have not looked back. Women’s Fitness Adventures offered exactly what I was looking for (but probably didn’t realise) i.e. adventure, social connections, fitness, support, friendship and laughter. I have achieved so many physical goals with Women’s Fitness Adventures it’s hard to pick the biggest. Maybe “bagging” my first mountain (Mt Maroon) or standing on a surf board for the first time. Perhaps it was the time I kayaked around CoochieMudlo island? I know that my favourite adventure was hiking the Cinque Terre in Italy with a fabulously diverse, supportive and fun group last year. I still pinch myself when I recall all the great times we had. Before joining I regularly hiked at Mt Cootha in Brisbane, however I kept to the same tracks and never went too far out of my comfort zone. I had a new job where I was way out of my comfort zone. The circle of friends that I had as part of a couple had dissipated, apparently that spare wheel myth is true! Sharon on the trail Women’s Fitness Adventures was the perfect solution as it offered new adventures in a supportive environment and the opportunity to make new connections. For me it was the opposite, life was suddenly “not busy”. My children had long flown the nest and have not yet produced a grandchild. Around that same time my mother moved into aged care and required less of my time and energy. Being on my own I only had to do housework for one and the weekends were looking long and, to be honest, lonely. Reading, movies, solitary walks are great but there’s a limit to their fulfillment. Now, knowing I have booked in for a new adventure gives me more purpose, fills in my weekends and makes me feel like I am doing something for myself. There is a lot to gain from joining Women’s Fitness Adventures. The obvious one being fitness but it’s so much more than that. It’s the subtle things like confidence, connection and fun that are Women’s Fitness Adventures point of difference.
