Hiking the Royal National Park was a delightful way to end 2024–enjoying the sun, sea, and spectacular trails of the Southern Sydney region. It is Australia’s first National Park, and the second in the world. Our Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W found respite from the steamy Summer exploring the breathtaking coastline, lush forest, and unique rock formations.
A Coastal Welcome at Bulli Beach
The C.R.E.W. met at Sydney Airport for a warm introduction before we travelled together by private transport to the breezy seaside town of Bulli. With the ocean as our backyard for the next few days, we kicked off the Adventure with an afternoon walk along the beach, soaking up the sunshine and the fresh sea air. Shoes came off, feet touched the sand, and the cool water lapped against our toes—a simple and relaxing way to ease into the Royal National Park Fitness Adventure.
Rainforest Trails and the Famous Figure 8 Pools
Our first full day of hiking the Royal National Park took us from Otford to the renowned Figure 8 Pools. Under the shade of the forest canopy, we hiked to the sound of cicadas, stopping at various lookout points to admire the dramatic cliffs and endless blue ocean. The pools did not disappoint—perfect conditions made for stunning, Instagram-worthy photos. Many of our C.R.E.W members took a refreshing dip while we enjoyed our lunch.
Coastal Views and Wedding Cake Rock
The next day on the trails saw us hiking the northern section of the Royal National Park Coastal Walk, starting from Bundeena and making our way to the famous Wedding Cake Rock. The summer heat was a challenge, but the cool sea breeze provided some relief. We paused often to take in the breathtaking cliff faces and capture the beauty of the rugged coastline. A highlight of the day was discovering a cave once used as a home during the Depression—our unique and shaded lunch spot. As we rested, a lone sea eagle soared above, a thrilling moment for the bird lovers in our group.
A Serene Finish at Nan Tien Temple and Sea Cliff Bridge
On the final day of the Adventure, the weather turned cooler, bringing with it strong winds and rain. Safety always comes first at Women’s Fitness Adventures, so the C.R.E.W enjoyed some cultural and scenic experiences of the charming Illawarra region, instead of battling the weather on trails. We visited the tranquil Fo Guang Shan Nan Tien Temple before making our way to the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge for one last breathtaking coastal walk. It turned out to be the perfect way to conclude our Adventure. Refreshed and ready for the festive season ahead, the C.R.E.W. headed back to Sydney, then onwards home, filled with memories, excitement and new friendships.
