I was trying hard to pick up the pieces and to fit into the new shape of my life after my husband had passed away.
I wasn’t doing anything wrong in my life but rather I was continuing to do the same things as I had been doing when I was part of a couple.
I knew I had to make some changes for me.
After completing two social walks, I realised that the group was one I wanted to belong to – a group of like-minded women from all occupations, backgrounds and life histories.
The conversations I had on just those two walks made me feel so comfortable and ready to join.
Since joining, not only has my fitness, stamina and endurance improved, my confidence has been boosted too.
It seemed like a monumental step to book that first multi day adventure overseas but once I had, the training and lead up to the trip gave me such a sense of achievement.
Since being widowed the idea of travel overseas seemed like something too far but I found it wasn’t! The encouragement from other members to just book the trip rather than just think about it was a great help.
Making time for my fitness is easy when you have a multi-day adventure booked as the training is scheduled and it keeps you on track.
When you don’t though, you just have to make the time, mix up your walks and exercise, enlist the help of friends, neighbours, work mates, add a coffee stop at the end – whatever it takes.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t go for that walk either.
Having joined Women’s Fitness Adventures, I have not only improved my fitness but I have made some wonderful friends and travelled to some great places in Australia and overseas.
I know this is true of others too – you only have to watch as the women arrive for a walk or hike and the reactions when we see someone we’ve walked with or travelled with before.
The social events are varied and lots of fun too. I’m very glad I joined because it has made a huge difference to me.
