The weather was hot and sunny, the rainforest ancient and magical, the beaches pristine, the adventures varied and incredible, the food sumptuous and the accommodation luxurious.
A fortunate group of ten Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W and their leader were blessed to experience all of this and more on our Port Douglas Tropical Fitness Adventure in October 2021.
The excited C.R.E.W members flew into Cairns in Far North Queensland and laughed and chatted together on the private bus ride to tropical Port Douglas. Often the ladies may not have all met in person before embarking upon a multi day adventure together, but they already know each other from the private Facebook group set up for each individual adventure. So, the beautiful welcome dinner at the marina was truly enjoyed amongst friends.
During our Port Douglas adventure we take sole occupancy of a beautiful and luxurious house on 4 Mile Beach. The swim up bar at our gorgeous private pool is certainly a welcome way to relax tired bodies at the end of each day.
We eased into hiking on the second day of our trip with a delightful visit to Spring Creek Falls. Following the creek nestled within the enchanted rainforest before swimming in the deep-water pool. Sitting under the waterfall was cool, relaxing and so enjoyable amongst friends.
The overall adventure is rated as challenging due to our third day adventure … summiting Manjal Jimalji known as Devils Thumb in the Mossman Gorge section of the Daintree National Park. It certainly is a strenuous hike offering log bridges, river crossings, scrambling and a lot of steep climbing in the heat. A very high level of cardio fitness is required but every step of the way we are guided by our local expert and the support we give to one another. Summiting the actual Devils Thumb, an expansive granite boulder, is an exhilarating achievement as we take in the awe-inspiring views of the Coral Coast all the way from Cape Tribulation through to Cape Grafton.
The cold lemongrass towels, lamingtons and cold juice were certainly appreciated at the end of this incredible hike.
The next day could not have been more different as we gently drifted our way down the Mossman River on lilos. Pure relaxing bliss as we soaked up the crystal clear water amongst the beautiful rainforest. Snorkelling whenever we wished to witness the underwater world. Lots of fun enjoyed by all.
Our fifth day was free to choose your own activity. Some ladies snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef, some did the famous Kuranda Railway whilst others chose to chill at our beautiful beach house.
A day in the Northern Daintree followed, starting with a walk along Kimberley Beach to the mouth of the rainforest. We were thrilled at seeing a cassowary in the wild. We enjoyed lunch at Noah Creek before a swim and an intriguing lesson in ochre rock paints. A Daintree Rainforest ice cream after another hike through the rainforest palms topped off a great day.
Our final day of hiking did not disappoint as we explored Lambs Range, sitting on the rocks eating lunch and enjoying the day. We celebrated with a dance at the end and then enjoyed our Celebration Dinner with a fully catered 7 course degustation dinner! A highlight to end our wonderful week of hiking.
A stunning sunrise with a relaxing walk along 4 Mile Beach and a delicious breakfast was a lovely ending to our adventure.
It was a wonderful experience with varied hikes and many different landscapes amongst the tropical paradise.
