Thursday September 3

Arrive into Florence, Italy

Our adventure begins in Florence, however if you are travelling with your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader, she will arrive into Rome and transfer to Florence by fast train.

You can take this option and travel with her OR meet in Florence in the mid-late afternoon.

Once in Florence we regroup at the hotel before we head off to explore Florence on our twilight walking tour and immediately immerse ourselves in the Italian surroundings.

Tonight we enjoy a Welcome Dinner in the beautiful city of Florence.

Friday September 4

Florence to Tuscan Agritusimo

After our first Italian breakfast we explore Florence with our guide who will take us on a walking tour of the highlights of this beautiful city including Piazza Duomo, Piazza Signori and the famous Gold Bridge – the Ponte Vecchio.

There is free time to enjoy a lunch in one of the many beautiful cafes in Florence.

This afternoon we transfer by private bus to our Tuscan accommodation, our Italian home for the next 4 nights, immersed in the beauty of the Tuscan Countryside.

Our Agriturismo (Tuscan Farm stay) is situated in the heart of the rolling hills of Siena, in a beautiful natural setting, rich in history, art and sacred traditions.

Our “Italian home” is  very close to famous destinations like Siena, Montalcino, Pienza. It also specialises in the organic production of wheat, spelt, barley, and other crops that are always included in the menu of the restaurant. We are guaranteed to eat fresh, local Italian food – YUM.

This afternoon, there’s plenty of  time to unpack and enjoy the beauty of Tuscany, or have a swim and relax by the pool.

Dinner tonight is at our “Italian home”.

Saturday September 5

Hike Pienza to San Quirico d’Orcia to Bagno Vignoni.

After a hearty breakfast we head off on our first Italian hike.

We will transfer by minibus to Pienza and it is from here that we hike to San Quirico d’Orcia which is a lovely village with many lunch opportunities for us.

Today’s hike takes in the overwhelming scenery of Tuscany. At times it may feel like you are walking in a postcard. And perhaps you are as this area is famed for being “the Tuscany photo place”.

As we near San Quirico d’Orcia, sections of the hike may seem familiar to anyone who has viewed the movie “Gladiator” with Russell Crowe. Several of the scenes were filmed in this area.

In the afternoon we continue to the village of Bagno Vignoni an historic town well known for its hot springs and again, offers many photo opportunities.

Our hike ends here and we return to our accommodation via mini bus.

Tonight we enjoy dinner at our accommodation.

Sunday September 6

Hike Montalcino to Sant’Antimo

This morning we will enjoy a Tuscan breakfast and prepare for another gorgeous day of hiking in the Tuscan countryside.

We travel by mini bus to Montalcino, a beautiful medieval city, some say a “classic fairytale hilltop town.”

This beautiful village nestled in the National Park is also home to the famous Brunello wine – one of the world’s best and most appreciated Italian wines. Perhaps we need to prove this to ourselves!!

From Montalcino we hike to The Abbey of Sant’Antimo, a Benedictine monastery and one of the oldest abbeys in Italy, with the monks still in residence. Situated in a picture perfect setting, this 12th century abbey is truly beautiful

It’s one of the most important examples of monastic architecture of the 12th century and by far the most important Romanesque building in southern Tuscany.

There’s plenty of time to explore before we catch our mini bus and transfer back to Montalcino where we have free time for lunch in the village.

Well nourished after lunch, we hike downhill towards Buonconvento and into our accommodation. After a beautiful day out prepare for another excellent Tuscan meal.

Monday September 7

Hike Siena to Buonconvento

After another delicious breakfast at our accommodation we hop on our mini bus to transfer to the train station where we travel into Siena.

Today we are hiking and exploring this gorgeous hilltop town and surrounds with our local Italian guide.

During our hike we visit the most famous sites of Siena, enjoying amazing views, and admire gorgeous monuments.

Lunch is at our leisure in the town centre.

We return by train back to Buonconvento and then by minibus to our accommodation.

We dine at our lovely farmstay for the last time before we head to Elba Island tomorrow.

Tuesday September 8

Travel to Elba island – Marina di Campo

We enjoy our last breakfast at our Farmstay before we depart for the Island component of our adventure.

We travel via private bus to the ferry terminal at Piombino. From here it is a short ferry ride to Elba Island. In fact Elba is only 10km off the Italian coast.

We arrive into Portoferrario, the town where Argonauts once landed and where Napoleon was exiled in 1814. Wow, we are stepping into history!

Once checked in to our hotel we will enjoy lunch and an afternoon hike to explore this area.

Dinner will be at our accommodation.

Wednesday September 9

Hiking Marciana Marina/ Cape Sant’Andrea and return

After a delicious breakfast, our mini bus will transfer us from Marina di Campo to Marciana Marina.

Soak up this picturesque town, with granite streets and pastel houses overlooking the sea. It is the smallest commune in Italy.

From here we hike along the coast, through woods, quarries and small coves towards the splendid bay of Sant’Andrea, with its granite cliffs, bridges and steps carved into the rock. The beauty of this bay, surrounded by granite, will leave you speechless. Have the camera ready!

Lunch is yours to choose in a local bar near Sant’Andrea. Indulge in the scenery and the Italian lifestyle.

In the afternoon we will return to Marciana on foot before catching the bus to transfer back to Marina di Campo.

It is time for a bit of a relax at our hotel before we head out to dinner.

Day 8:  Thursday September 10

Hiking and Sailing

Enjoy a hearty breakfast as today we will be hiking in the heart of Granite Land. We will depart by mini bus to the picturesque village of San Piero.

Our hike today will lead us to ancient granite quarries, with remains of columns and mills.

The views from this hike are spectacular as we will be able to overlook the whole island and the small isles of Giglio and Pianosa. This hike is simply breathtaking.

We return to Marina di Campo and board our sailboat for a mid afternoon cruise along the beautiful coastline, enjoying the crystal clear waters and views back to the island.

We return to the beach and our accommodation early evening, allowing time to change and enjoy our dinner at our accommodation.

Friday September 11

Hiking Day in the land of Iron around Rio nell’Elba 

After breakfast we depart by bus from Marina di Campo to the east side of the island.

This Rio Marina area is where iron has been extracted since Etruscan times. This iron industry continued throughout the centuries until the 1980’s.

We hike through the former open cast iron mines and include a visit to a local museum.

After lunch we will return by private bus to Marina di Campo.

Tonight we have our celebration dinner to reflect on all the experiences and fun we have had on our Tuscan Adventure.

Saturday September 12

Travel from Elba to Rome Airport

After a leisurely breakfast we say a sad goodbye to Elba Island.

Our bus transfer will take us to the port where we retrace our steps and catch the ferry to Piombino.  From here we have a private bus transfer to Rome Airport.

If you are travelling with the Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader we will check in to our return flight to Australia . Otherwise we will say goodbye at the airport.

FITNESS TRAINING

Our Trekking in Tuscany Fitness Adventure  is classified Introductory and provides the opportunity to experience an Outdoor adventure .

Women’s Fitness Adventures provides the opportunity to attend  monthly hike training sessions within the greater Brisbane area.

This monthly training is included in your package.

We advise you do as much training as you can before the trip.  The more you train for this hike, the easier you will handle the terrain and the more you will enjoy this wonderful part of the world.

Non Brisbane residents have a monthly call and online training provided.

If you’re at a beginner AND are keen to do this adventure, we can help you meet your goals to assist you in the enjoyment of this trip.

 

ACCOMMODATION

During our Trekking in Tuscany Fitness Adventure we will be staying in three different locations to capture the true essence of the region.

One Night in a hotel – twin share in Florence.

Four nights in an Agriturismo (Farm stay) –  twin share near Siena

Four Nights in a hotel – twin share on  Elba Island

All our accommodation is clean and comfortable.

MEALS

In this itinerary we have catered for

9 Breakfasts and 8 Dinners.

We have allowed for flexibility with  lunches as there are many choices and stunning places we can choose depending on days and weather

and therefore have not included lunches for this itinerary

Please refer to each day’s itinerary for inclusions.

Whilst we do not supply alcohol, you are welcome to buy your own.

Remember alcohol is dehydrating and the goal is to hike each day.

Should you have any special snacks that you can’t live without, you are welcome to bring these with you.

YOUR LEADERS

Your experienced Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W. Leader is with you all the way.

From the moment you arrive in Rome (or if you are travelling there together) until the time you leave she will be your ultimate fan and support.

Your C.R.E.W Leader is fully trained in Remote Area First Aid and is your first point of call once you are on the adventure.

 

GEAR AND EQUIPMENT

Within a few weeks of your booking being confirmed, you will have access to your Gear and Packing list.

By sticking to the list, you will be well prepared for Trekking in Tuscany Fitness Adventure

Each day you will be required to carry your own day pack.

If you are new to adventures and do not have the gear, please hold off until our Member Night at the Adventure store or your first training session where you can talk to your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader

Women’s Fitness Adventures regularly holds information and education evenings with our preferred Adventure store partners.

At these events you will be able to receive professional advice, adventure specific information, a fun night out and the Women’s Fitness Adventures Members’ discount on equipment purchases on the night.

Your C.R.E.W Leaders are carrying Emergency Communications Equipment and a group first aid kit.

SAFETY

Safety is our number one priority. Your C.R.E.W Leader is fully trained in Remote Area First Aid and your Guides hold  Senior First Aid Qualifications.

All guides and leaders have current CPR Qualifications.

In the event of extreme weather conditions or conditions beyond our control, the adventure may vary from the itinerary. Please be aware of this and accept this as part of the adventure. Your personal safety is our highest priority.

Our guide, along with your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader, who is there to support YOU, will ensure that you leave with not only knowledge of the local area, but also priceless memories.

  • What you carry

    You will only need day packs to carry your water and snacks for the day.  You may also have personal items that you might like to carry along such as extra clothing, rainjacket, sunscreen and camera. The weight of this would vary around 5-7kg.

    A comprehensive gear list will be supplied to you long before the adventure so that you can feel confident that you have the right gear.

    Within a few weeks of your booking being confirmed, you will have access to your Gear and Packing list.

  • Fitness Level

    Our Trekking in Tuscany Fitness Adventure is Graded Introductory.

    The walking is introductory to moderate with daily guided walks of around 4-6 hours.

    There is also an afternoon on a Sailing boat that is fully skippered and hugs the coastline for an afternoon out to explore and enjoy. No previous sailing experience is necessary and all safety equipment is supplied.

    You will need an average level of fitness to participate fully in this adventure.

    Women’s Fitness Adventures provides the opportunity to attend  monthly hike training sessions within the greater Brisbane area.

    This monthly training is included in your package.

  • Weather

    September is Autumn in Italy, and one of the best months to travel to Tuscany.

    The weather is warm but not humid.

    It is important to come along with an open mind ready for an awesome experience whatever the weather, whoever the group. Weather can sometimes be unpredictable.

    In the event of extreme weather conditions and other factors beyond our control, the adventure may vary from the itinerary. Please be aware of this and accept this as part of the adventure. Your personal safety is our highest priority.

    In completing and submitting the Booking Form, you agree to be bound by these conditions which constitute the agreement between Women’s Fitness Adventures ABN 99 126 975 880 and you.

    No purported variation of these conditions will be effective unless in writing and signed by a person so authorised by Women’s Fitness Adventures. In these terms and conditions reference to “Women’s Fitness Adventures representatives” means staff of Women’s Fitness Adventures and its officers, employees, agents, licensees, guides and other third parties and representatives and the land management authorities in each country in which the tour is conducted, or any of them.

    For international bookings please note a passport is required for all International Travel and a minimum of 6 months validity is required on your passport.

    Final itineraries and gear lists will be supplied via email no more than 14-21 days prior to your departure date.

    Prices

    All prices are subject to availability and can be withdrawn or varied without notice. The price is only guaranteed once paid for in full by you.

    Price changes can occur between the time you make a reservation and the date of full payment. Therefore pricing is subject to change until final payment has been received. Factors influencing price changes can be currency fluctuations, fuel surcharges, taxes and other provider increases outside of our control. Please be aware of this.

    • An initial non refundable deposit of 25% is required to secure your place on this adventure.
    • Once a booking is confirmed, payment must be received within the payment terms as advised by Women’s Fitness Adventures in the table below.
    • Failure to pay within the deadline will result in automatic cancellation of your booking.
    • Payments are accepted by direct deposit, by cheque or by credit card. There are no surcharges for bookings made through the Women’s Fitness Adventures website
    • When your credit card is processed by Women’s Fitness Adventures you agree to not have your payment ‘charged back’ or reversed by your credit card provider where the services have been provided

    Travel Insurance

     

    Travel insurance must be taken out at this point and a copy of your Travel Documentation supplied with your completed Participant Document to guarantee your place.

    • Please make sure that you read, understand and accept all of the fine print contained within your insurance policy before purchase to ensure it covers all of your personal requirements.
    • Please ensure your Travel Insurance covers you for cancellation, medical and repatriation expenses, personal injury and accident, death, loss of personal baggage and money and personal liability insurance. It is also important to read the fine print in relation to parents over the age of 80 and what is included/excluded from your policy. If using your credit card insurance, please check the terms and conditions on this before booking with us.

    Women’s Fitness Adventures and its partners are not liable for any out of pocket expenses that insurance will not cover and will not be held responsible financially or in kind should your insurance not cover your personal circumstances.

    Itineraries and other details are published in good faith as statements of intention only and reasonable changes in the itinerary and related items may be made where deemed necessary or advisable by Women’s Fitness Adventures.

    The information contained in Women’s Fitness Adventures website, Facebook Pages, brochures, itineraries, and any other published content, is to the best of Women’s Fitness Adventures knowledge, correct at the time of publication.

     

    Route changes, Postponement, Cancellation or Delay.

     

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to:

    • Cancel or modify any routes within the adventures or objectives set out in the itinerary; or
    • Substitute different or equivalent routes within the adventures in place of cancelled or modified routes, or
    • Postpone, cancel or delay (either in relation to the departure or arrival times or the duration of the adventures) any such aspect of the tour if, at the absolute discretion of Women’s Fitness Adventures, it is necessary to do so due to inclement weather, snow or icy conditions or conditions that are otherwise likely to be hazardous or dangerous or due to any other adverse or threatening conditions whether political or military or terrorist or otherwise or if, in the absolute discretion of Women’s Fitness Adventures there is a likelihood of any such event occurring which may impact upon the safety of the participants, or if an act or omission of a third party prevents the tour or the aspect of the tour being undertaken in accordance with your booking or for any other reason considered necessary by Women’s Fitness Adventures.
    • In the event of any change, modification, cancellation postponement or delay under this condition, you acknowledge that you will have no right of refund of the adventure price (whether in whole or in part) and no right to claim compensation for any injury, loss or damage or other additional expenses incurred by virtue of the change, modification, cancellation postponement or delay.
    • Women’s Fitness Adventures also reserves, at its absolute discretion, the right to cancel any tour due to any government travel warning or advice, or any change in such warning or advice. Travel insurance may compensate you depending on the circumstances.

     

    Cancellation by Women’s Fitness Adventures.

     

    Cancellation by Women’s Fitness Adventures. 

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel a departure and will advise you of such cancellations no later than 60 days before the adventure departure date.

    If due to ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice, Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel a departure at any time. With any form of cancellation, Women’s Fitness Adventures will do it’s best to offer you alternative arrangements if available, and if the price of your alternative adventure is of lower value than the original booking we will refund the difference to you. If you do not accept alternative arrangements we will refund all payments you have made to Women’s Fitness Adventures, (in case of ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs). Women’s Fitness Adventures will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by you.

    Force Majeure Women’s Fitness Adventures will not be liable for any delay in, change to or cancellation of trips due to ‘Force Majeure’. ‘Force Majeure’ definition means a circumstance beyond the reasonable control of Women’s Fitness Adventures and includes, but is not limited to, war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, disease, industrial or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire and strikes.

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserve the right either before or during the course of the adventure to refuse to carry or accommodate any client which it reasonably considers, in the light of the best interests of all participants within the adventure group and crew, to be unsuitable by reason of physical or mental condition or unruly behaviour.

    Cancellation due to small adventure numbers. 

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel any adventure prior to departure in the event that there are too few people booked on the adventure. In this case, you will be given a full refund of the amount already paid by you. You will not be entitled to claim any additional amounts or seek any compensation for any injury, loss, expenses or damage (either direct or consequential) or for any loss of time or inconvenience which may result from such cancellation (including but not limited to visa, passport and vaccination charges, or departure, gear purchases, airport and airline taxes or annual leave).

    We require a minimum of 11 trekkers for the Trekking in Tuscany Fitness Adventure. If numbers do not reach this level we reserve the right to cancel, or change the dates of the adventure or refer you to another existing adventure.

    Adventure numbers are regularly reviewed and we will notify you of any cancellations no later than 60 days prior to your selected trek.

    Medical Disclosure. It is your responsibility and you must advise women’s Fitness Adventures of any pre-existing medical condition and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of you requiring medical attention while on our tours. Women’s Fitness Adventures or our suppliers may require additional medical assessment by a medical practitioner. Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your booking and refund the money paid by you, less any unrecoverable costs. Women’s Fitness Adventures also reserves the right to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
