We consider this one of our personal favourites due to the location, the scenery, the waterholes and the general sense of being at peace.


It is a rewarding hike in the remote areas of Northern Territory.


8 days, 7 nights, 62km from Nitmiluk Gorge to Edith Falls


The Jatbula Trail follows an ancient Jawoyn song line through the Nitmiluk National Park, not far from Katherine in the Northern Territory.

The trail is only open during the dry season from June to September, and daily numbers on the trail are strictly limited.

Imagine hiking in the wilderness in the morning where the colours are alive, then spending the ENTIRE afternoon relaxing by a magnificent waterhole. The afternoon is entirely yours. These are magic days.

We experience ancient rock art sites and majestic waterholes and waterfalls. At night, you sleep under the canopy of a thousand stars.

Seventeen Mile Falls on the Jatbula Trail with Women's Fitness Adventures


Day 1 – Monday 15th July 2019

Arrival day in Darwin

The adventure is finally here. You should organise flights to arrive in to Darwin today.

If travelling with your women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader, or arriving at approximately the same time, transfers to your hotel are included.

If arriving outside of this time, please make your own way to the hotel.

Tonight we enjoy a group welcome dinner and share the excitement for the week ahead.

Day 2 – Tuesday 16th July 2019 

Transfer Darwin to Katherine

We have an early morning start this morning for our pick up and travel to Katherine.

Along the way we stop for a leg stretch and coffee at the historical mining town of Pine Creek. Be warned, the local cafe has a great reputation for it’s food!!

Once we arrive in Katherine, it is time for our  boat cruise in the magnificent Nitmiluk Gorge.

We also have the opportunity to participate in one of the regions best traditional cultural activities, spending time with local artists and trying some of the age old traditional practices of firelighting, spear-throwing and painting.

Tonight we camp at Nitmiluk National Park.

Day 3 – Wednesday 17th July 2019

Nitmiluk to Biddlecombe Cascades

It’s trail day today.

After an early morning breakfast, we transfer to Nitmiluk National Park to the start of the Jatbula Trail.

With our packs at the ready, we catch a boat across the river to the start of the trail at Seventeen Mile Creek.

We hike to Northern Rock hole for morning tea, where rest time allows for any adjustments to backpacks boots. With a rest in the shade, a light snack and water, we are re-energised and set to go.

Our day continues with our hike into  camp at Biddlecombe Cascades.

Like an open air spa, there is time for a relaxing soak in some of the scenic and shaded rock pools.

Day 4 – Thursday 18th July 2019

Biddlecombe Cascades to Crystal Falls

We rise early to catch the sunrise and make the next camp before the heat of the day.

Today we will see the first of our Rock Art paintings, sheltered by an amazing rock formation.

With frequent stops to pause and reflect, we make our way along the trail to tonights camp at Crystal Falls.

Our camp is a great place to relax and stretch the body in the huge waterhole right beside the camp.

Day 5 – Friday  19th July 2019

Crystal Falls to 17 Mile Falls

Another early start gets us to the Crystal Falls Lookout first thing for a sunrise.

It is pretty special today as we hike to the Amphitheatre for morning tea.

Leaving our packs behind for a short break, we descend into the cool monsoon forest to explore more Rock Art and enjoy the shade and serenity of the ampitheatre.

Our camp tonight is at the top of  the spectacular 17 Mile Falls. It is a favourite waterhole and campsite.

Relax the afternoon away in by the water, read a book or take a rest. A walk to the bottom of the falls can also be arranged.

It is all about you as you enjoy this spectacular part of the world.

Day 6 – Saturday 20th July 2019

17 Mile Falls to Sandy Billabong

Another early morning start at sunrise as we set out for the Edith River Crossing. It is our biggest hiking day today.

With frequent stops, we enjoy the diversity and vastness of the trail. Remember, few people will ever get to experience this.

Tonight we camp at Sandy Billabong – a contrast to all our other campsites.

With an abundance of bird life, deep water holes for swimming, rocks for basking and a glorious sunset for photos, it is like being in a moving postcard.

Day 7 – Sunday  21st July 2019

Sandy Billabong to Edith Falls

It is our last day on the trail today and whilst our thoughts may turn to hotels and hot water, there is still the beauty of the trail to enjoy.

With our final early start across a variety of terrains – long grass, creek crossings and boggy marsh, we arrive at Sweetwater Pool in time for lunch.

With time for a swim and photographs in this stunning location, it is the perfect place to reflect on the week gone by.

After lunch it’s a short hike to Edith Falls and the end of the Jatbula Trail.

There’s time for a coffee or ice cream at the cafe, before our mid afternoon pick up to take us back to Darwin. You can nap on the bus or catch up with the world again.

We arrive late back to our hotel where a warm shower and comfy bed await.

Day 8 – Monday 22nd July 2019

Heading for home

This morning we have our Traditional Women’s Fitness Adventures Awards Celebration

We have a leisurely group breakfast this morning and reflect on the week.

There is plenty of time to look around Darwin before an early afternoon departure (if travelling with your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader)

Whether you want to purchase souvenirs or simply sit in one of the many cafes and watch the world go by, there is always something to see.

A full gear list is provided with your itinerary.

In addition to your personal items, you will need a sleeping bag, sleeping mat and backpack. These are included in the adventure if you do not have your own. We highly recommend you have your own full pack, as this is better suited to your body.



Safety is our number one priority.

Your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader is fully trained in Remote Area First Aid and holds current CPR Qualifications

Your Wilderness Guides are fully qualified in Wilderness First Aid.

In addition, we carry a group first aid kit and emergency communications equipment.


Our guides knowledge of the area is second to none, with a comprehensive understanding of the local history, flora and fauna.


From the moment you book on to the Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure you will begin to make new friends. It all starts with the training and the Closed Facebook Group

Fitness and Training

Group Hike Training and online group coaching is included as part of your adventure.

This will consist of:
*quarterly group hike training sessions held in Brisbane of a half day duration
*monthly online accountability training sessions
*monthly hike training and functional fitness program delivered online.

All Group Hike Training options are perfect opportunities to:

  1. get to know fellow C.R.E.W members on your hike
  2. gauge your level of fitness
  3. boost your fitness

Once your payment is confirmed, there is also a closed Facebook Group Page that you have access to, where you can converse with your fellow Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure C.R.E.W Members.

What you carry

On the Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure your hike will consist of mainly full pack hiking. Ideally the weight in your pack is a maximum of 13kg (personal items, clothing, water, snacks, camera, etc). You are required to carry your snacks, however the cooking equipment is carried by our guides. “Food drops” along the way also mean that we do not have to carry the bulk of our main meals.

Our Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure is considered a moderate plus hike.

It’s a camping expedition, with a combination of full and day packs.

It is the perfect adventure for an introduction into full pack adventures.

A comprehensive gear list will be supplied to you.  You may wish to purchase our essential pack items from the Women’s Fitness Adventures shop if you do not already have them. This includes cap or hat, thermals and re usable coffee cup.


Fitness Level
Our 8 day, 7 night Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure is a moderate hike that requires a moderate to high level of fitness (graded moderate).  We advise you do as much training as you can before the adventure.

The more you train for this adventure, the easier you will handle the terrain and the more you will enjoy this wonderful part of the world.

Training is included as part of this adventure. Please refer to the “Inclusions” tab for information regarding Group Hike Training and online training.

With plenty of advance notice of the trip and time to train, hikers at beginner/intermediate level make this a manageable and rewarding fitness goal, provided you do the training.


It is important to come along with an open mind ready for an awesome experience whatever the weather, whoever the group. It is very important you bring the right gear for the conditions.  Central Australian weather is generally predictable at this time of year. Days are warm and the nights generally mild, however open skies can cool the evenings down.

A comprehensive gear list will be provided once we have secured your booking.

In the event of extreme weather conditions, the adventure may vary from the itinerary. Please be aware of this and accept this as part of the adventure. Your personal safety is our highest priority. The itinerary is also subject to change with any change in community regulations as well as governmental changes and natural circumstances beyond our control.

As per the Booking Terms and Conditions, please do not book flights until you receive confirmation from Women’s Fitness Adventures that this adventure is proceeding.

In completing and submitting the Booking Form, you agree to be bound by these conditions which constitute the agreement between Women’s Fitness Adventures ABN 99 126 975 880 and you.

No purported variation of these conditions will be effective unless in writing and signed by a person so authorised by Women’s Fitness Adventures. In these terms and conditions reference to “Women’s Fitness Adventures representatives” means staff of Women’s Fitness Adventures and its officers, employees, agents, licensees, guides and other third parties and representatives and the land management authorities in each country in which the tour is conducted, or any of them.


All prices are subject to availability and can be withdrawn or varied without notice.

The price is only guaranteed once paid for in full by you.

Price changes can occur between the time you make a reservation and the date of full payment. Factors influencing price changes can be currency fluctuations, fuel surcharges, taxes and other provider increases outside of our control.

  • An initial deposit of 20% is required to secure your place on this adventure.
  • Once a booking is confirmed, payment must be received within the payment terms as advised by Women’s Fitness Adventures in the table below.
  • Failure to pay within the deadline will result in automatic cancellation of the booking.
  • Payments are accepted by direct deposit, by PayPal or by credit card. There are no surcharge fees.
  • When your credit card or PayPal is processed by Women’s Fitness Adventures you agree to not have your payment ‘charged back’ or reversed by your credit card provider where the services have been provided

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance must be taken out at this point and a copy of your Travel Documentation supplied with your completed Participant Document to guarantee your place. This will be available for you to sign electronically at the time of making your booking.

  • Please make sure that you read, understand and accept all of the fine print contained within your insurance policy before purchase to ensure it covers all of your personal requirements.
  • Please ensure your Travel Insurance covers you for cancellation, medical and repatriation expenses, personal injury and accident, death, loss of personal baggage and money and personal liability insurance. It is also important to read the fine print in relation to parents over the age of 80 and what is included/excluded from your policy. If using your credit card insurance, please check the terms and conditions on this before booking with us.

Women’s Fitness Adventures and its partners are not liable for any out of pocket expenses that insurance will not cover and will not be held responsible financially or in kind should your insurance not cover your personal circumstances.

Itineraries and brochures.

Itineraries and other details are published in good faith as statements of intention only and reasonable changes in the itinerary and related items may be made where deemed necessary or advisable by Women’s Fitness Adventures.

The information contained in Women’s Fitness Adventures website, Facebook Pages, brochures, itineraries, and any other published content, is, to the best of Women’s Fitness Adventures knowledge, correct at the time of publication.

Route changes, Postponement, Cancellation or Delay.

Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to:

  • Cancel or modify any routes within the adventure or objectives set out in the itinerary; or
  • Substitute different or equivalent routes within the adventure in place of cancelled or modified routes, or
  • Postpone, cancel or delay (either in relation to the departure or arrival times or the duration of the tour) any such aspect of the adventure if, at the absolute discretion of Women’s Fitness Adventures, it is necessary to do so due to inclement weather, snow or icy conditions or conditions that are otherwise likely to be hazardous or dangerous or due to any other adverse or threatening conditions whether political or military or terrorist or otherwise or if, at the absolute discretion of Women’s Fitness Adventures there is a likelihood of any such event occurring which may impact upon the safety of the participants, or if an act or omission of a third party prevents the tour or the aspect of the adventure being undertaken in accordance with your booking or for any other reason considered necessary by Women’s Fitness Adventures.
  • In the event of any change, modification, cancellation postponement or delay under this condition, you acknowledge that you will have no right of refund of the adventure price (whether in whole or in part) and no right to claim compensation for any injury, loss or damage or other additional expenses incurred by virtue of the change, modification, cancellation postponement or delay.
  • Women’s Fitness Adventures also reserves, at its absolute discretion, the right to cancel any adventure due to any government travel warning or advice, or any change in such warning or advice. Travel insurance may compensate you depending on the circumstances.

Cancellation by Women’s Fitness Adventures. 

Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel an adventure and will advise you of such cancellations no later than 60 days before the adventure departure date.

If due to ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice, Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel an adventure at any time. With any form of cancellation, Women’s Fitness Adventures will do it’s best to offer you alternative arrangements if available, and if the price of your alternative adventure is of lower value than the original booking we will refund the difference to you. If you do not accept alternative arrangements we will refund all payments you have made to Women’s Fitness Adventures, (in case of ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs). Women’s Fitness Adventures will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by you.

Force Majeure
 Women’s Fitness Adventures will not be liable for any delay in, change to or cancelation of trips due to ‘Force Majeure’. ‘Force Majeure’ definition means a circumstance beyond the reasonable control of Women’s Fitness Adventures and includes, but is not limited to, war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, disease, industrial or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire and strikes.

Women’s Fitness Adventures reserve the right either before or during the course of the adventure to refuse to carry or accommodate any client which it reasonably considers, in the light of the best interests of all participants within the adventure group and crew, to be unsuitable by reason of physical or mental condition or unruly behavior.

Cancellation due to small tour numbers. 

Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel any adventure prior to departure in the event that there are too few people booked on the adventure. In this case you will be given a full refund of the amount already paid by you. You will not be entitled to claim any additional amounts or seek any compensation for any injury, loss, expenses or damage (either direct or consequential) or for any loss of time or inconvenience which may result from such cancellation (including but not limited to visa, passport and vaccination charges, or departure, gear purchases, airport and airline taxes or annual leave).

We require a minimum of 7 trekkers for The Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure. If numbers do not reach this level we reserve the right to cancel, or change dates of the adventure or refer you to another existing adventure.

Adventure numbers are regularly reviewed and we will notify you of any cancellations no later than 60 days prior to your selected trek.

Medical Disclosure. It is your responsibility and you must advise Women’s Fitness Adventures of any pre-existing medical condition and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of you requiring medical attention while on our adventures. Women’s Fitness Adventures or our suppliers may require additional medical assessment by a medical practitioner. Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your booking and refund the money paid by you, less any unrecoverable costs. Women’s Fitness Adventures also reserves the right to cancel your participation in a adventure at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other adventure members.

We also understand the physiology of women’s bodies, so rest assured our programs have truly been designed with YOU at the very centre.

Our training programs are proven and extremely successful – but ONLY if you follow them. Our C.R.E.W who hiked Kokoda in PNG, followed the plan EXACTLY and our only injury was a blister!!!

There are FOUR components to the training and to MAXIMISE your results, we recommend you get involved in all.
1. Physical Group Hike Training
This is where the C.R.E.W Leaders get to see you in action. It is held QUARTERLY around Brisbane and is a 4 hour/half day duration.
2. Online training – MONTHLY in the comfort of your own home.
Each month, at a specified time and date, we will connect with the Jatbula Trail Hiking Adventure C.R.E.W and catch up on where each person is at.
We also provide you the training for the coming weeks. This covers the 3 components of Functional, Cardio and Endurance as outlined above. You will also receive a  comprehensive 4 weekly hiking plan as well as functional exercises.
Don’t worry though – we will take you through it step by step, regardless of the level you are currently at.
3. One on one call with your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader
So that we can best maximise your training and give you the best opportunity to be as fit as possible for your upcoming adventure, we will schedule a 15 minute call to maximise your training opportunities.
Again, this is based on feedback from our past participants who suggested this would be a great addition to training.
4. The closed Facebook Group
We encourage you to comment and support each other in the group. Where possible, get together as a group outside of the formal training times.
Life gets busy and simply having the support of the group when you don’t feel like training, will immediately shift your focus to CAN DO.
