Join us for a fabulous, life-changing short break as we hike to the Summit of the fourth highest peak in Queensland, Mt Barney.

If you are looking for a physical and mental challenge then this is the adventure for you.  Situated in the World Heritage Listed Mt Barney National Park,  East Barney Peak is at 1351 meters high.

Not for the faint-hearted and requiring a high level of fitness, this one is a “must do” for anyone keen for an adventure.

To maximize the adventure and get the most out of this full day (12-14 hour) hike, two nights are spent at the delightful Moringarah Lodge, situated at Mt Barney Lodge, at the base of the National Park.

SUMMARY

The short break consists of
  • Monday night – Wednesday Morning
  • Full day to the summit on the Tuesday 12-14 hours in total
  • All meals Tuesday through to breakfast Wednesday morning.
  • Accommodation at Mt Barney Lodge (shared accommodation in beautiful Moringarah Homestead)
  • Fully guided hike by local experts and qualified wilderness guides
  • Women’s Fitness Adventure C.R.E.W Leader
It is important that our guides are able to assess your endurance, balance and rock scrambling ability prior to the Mt Barney Summit.
  • We strongly recommend that you complete some or all of our Mountain Series of adventures BEFORE booking.
  • Our goal is to provide you with a wonderful and positive experience on our Mt Barney Summit weekend.
  • Having had some experience at the mountain series enables you (and us) to see how you progress on various terrains, rock surfaces and exposed edges BEFORE the big summit day.

For your own enjoyment it is highly desirable that you complete either the Stinson Hike or Mt Maroon Summit Hike with us.

ITINERARY

Monday 13th September
  • Arrive at your leisure on Monday afternoon/evening.
  • If you arrive early afternoon you may wish to explore the property and other shorter walks before joining the other hikers in the early evening.
  • Tonight we have a team briefing and a relax around the open fire in the lounge-room with your fellow hikers.
  • A light supper/nibbles will be held when all hikers have arrived.
  Tuesday 14th September
  • Full day hike to the summit of Mt Barney. At  1359 metres it is Queensland’s fourth highest mountain.
  • After a very early breakfast, our expedition departs at 5.30am and we make our way to the summit.
  • The exact route that we take will be weather dependant and may be subject to change on the day.
  • On return to the lodge, early evening, after a warm shower, relax by the fire with your feet up and pre dinner snacks.
  • Over our dining room table dinner, rediscover the highlights of the hike before the lure of sleep beckons you.
  Wednesday 15th September
  • Wake at your leisure to a relaxing and hearty breakfast before heading home around mid morning.

FAQ`s

I am reasonably fit but have not done this type of thing before. Is it for me?

  • If you like an adventure and have a high level of fitness, then this is the adventure for you.
  • Our guides and the support of other members of the team are there to help.
  • We strongly recommend you use our “mountain hiking sequence” to assist you in your preparation for the summit.

Can I car pool?

  • We always ask if anyone wants to share a lift.
  • Once you are booked, we will put the call out.

What gear do I need?

  • A full gear list will be supplied upon booking.
  • We recommend a backpack to carry your water, snacks, camera and a windproof jacket.
  • Hiking boots/shoes are recommended, however if you have comfortable walking shoes/joggers that are well worn in, then these will be fine.
  • You will need to bring your own linen/sleeping bag as well as any personal snacks
  • Alcohol is not supplied however you are welcome to bring your own.

Inclement weather

  • Please note that although we will endeavour to run this adventure in all weather conditions, some modifications may occur for the summit hike in inclement weather in particular, heavy rainfall.
  • This may include swapping the Summit day to the Wednesday if the weather forecast is more favourable.
  • If this is the case, we will modify the original program to ensure we can still provide an outdoor fitness adventure of some variety on that day.
  • Should we have to cancel the adventure due to severe weather conditions that will impact the weekend significantly, you will be advised by text and email on the Sunday prior.
  • Should this occur, alternative arrangements for transfer to another date or a credit will be offered.

Hygiene & Social Distancing

To ensure we have a Covid-Safe environment the following procedures are in place.
  1. Social Distancing. All participants are required to be 1.5 metres apart at all times
  2. The principles of good hand hygiene, sneezing/coughing into your arm and the use and disposal of tissues is mandatory
  3. No food or equipment to be shared
  4. If you feel unwell DO NOT attend
  5. If the leader, at the start of the session, deems that you are not well enough to participate and you may jeopardise the health of others, you may be asked to leave. NO refunds, credits or transfers will be available.

BOOKING TERMS AND CONDTIONS

Are there any special booking terms and conditions?
  • Once we have received your payment, you will receive an email confirming your place.
  • You will be sent a booking form to complete and sign which will need to be returned within 3 days of your payment being made.
  • Your payment is final once payment is made. Any cancellations made before 5th July 2021 will incur a 25% cancellation fee.
  • There are no refunds, credits or transfers for cancellations made after 5th July 2021.
