Become an Active Hiker

There’s a difference between wanting to hike and being an Active Hiker.

Hikers just don’t show up to guided walks – they consistently build capability. They know how to:

  • Choose the right trail for their current fitness level
  • Pack their gear with confidence (and actually know what belongs in their pack)
  • Fuel their body properly for sustained energy
  • Read trail conditions and adjust their pace.
  • Handle the unexpected without panic
  • Feel at home on the trail, not like a tourist tagging along.

This program activates your hiker identity.

Over 3 consecutive Saturday mornings, you will not only learn about hiking, you’ll become someone who hikes.  Someone who makes active, informed choices about gear, nutrition, pacing and safety. Someone who finishes a trail thinking “what’s next” instead of “never again”.

By the end of Week 3, you’ll have:

  • Hiked 3 progressively challenging Brisbane trails
  • Learned the foundational skills every confident hiker needs
  • Understood your body’s capabilities and needs on the trail
  • Felt ready to choose and tackle new hikes independently.

FAQs

Here’s what happens when you book your spot:
  • You will receive a confirmation email and SMS with all of the details on exact meeting location; what to wear and what to bring. You will also receive specific preparation instructions for each session.
What are the dates?
  • Session 1: Saturday 14th March 2026 – 7:30am

  • Session 2: Saturday 21st March 2026 – 7.30am

  • Session 3: Saturday 28th March 2026 – 7.30am
Important – these sessions are progressive and must be completed in order.  There are no make-up sessions. If you miss a session you can re-enrol in the next program cycle.
I haven’t done this before, will I be fit enough?
  • This program requires a baseline level of fitness. You should be comfortable walking 3km on flat terrain before starting.
  • If you are not at that level yet, consider enrolling in our Couch to Mountain Program first which starts in June and is a six month guided online training program and adventure combined.
  • Trying to build hiking skills without adequate fitness makes the experience frustrating for you. When you have the fitness foundation, you can focus on learning technique, navigation and gear choices rather than just “getting through” the distance.
Do I need any special gear?
  • You need the basics and we will teach you what to add to your kit as you progress.
  • Footwear – comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots/shoes with a good grip.
  • water bottle – minimum 1 litre.
  • Sun protection – hat and sunscreen
  • Small backpack – to carry your gear comfortably.
  • Morning tea – pack yourself a light snack.
  • Your C.R.E.W Leader will teach you about gear selection, what to pack for different conditions, proper hydration strategies and how to prepare for the elements.  These are all core hiking skills you will use every time you hit the trails.
Can I come alone?
  • Absolutely! In fact, most women join solo and  by the end of Session 1, you’ll feel like you’ve known your fellow hikers for years.
  • But here’s what is different about this program: we are building a community of capable hikers, not just friendly walking groups.  You’ll be surrounded by women who are keen on getting into hiking, investing in their skills and showing up to learn and improve.  That’s powerful and it’s fun.
Wet Weather
  • Hikers learn to hike in varied conditions – that’s part of the training.
  • We’ll hike in light rain (you’ll learn what gear to wear). However in the event of extreme weather that creates safety risks, we will contact you via SMS up to 2 hours before the session start time to reschedule it.
  • Learning to assess conditions and adapt is a crucial hiking skill we will teach you.
What if I Feel Unwell?
  • Your health (and that of your fellow hikers) is our top priority.
  • If you’re feeling unwell, we ask that you stay home and let us know via phone, email, or text. We ask that you follow good hygiene practices throughout the hike.
  • If our team feels concerned about your ability to participate safely, we may ask you to sit out a session. This isn’t about judgement, it’s about keeping everyone safe so you can continue your hiking journey long term.
I have more questions – who can I contact? If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help! Phone 0412 121 420 or email [email protected]

Participation in this Activity

What you need to know before the first session.
  • Become an Active Hiker is designed for women who are ready to build real hiking capability.
  • We focus on progressive skill development, not just completing the trails.  This means you will be challenged appropriately for your current fitness level while learning the techniques that confident hikers use.
  Health & Safety First
  • If you feel unwell at any point during the hike, please let your C.R.E.W. Leader know so we can support you.
  • You should only participate if you feel medically well to do so.
  • If our Leaders have any concerns about your ability to safely continue, they may ask you to take a break or sit out of certain activities—your safety is our top priority.
  • This isn’t about pushing through pain or providing toughness. Smart hikers listen to their bodies and make responsible decisions. That’s what we will teach you to do.
  Preparing for the Outdoors
  • This hike takes place in bushland settings, which means natural elements like uneven terrain, rocks, and changing weather conditions are all part of the adventure. We’ll guide you through how to navigate these safely and confidently.
  • As part of your booking, we’ll ask you to complete a Participant Document to ensure we have the most up-to-date information, including any medical details that might affect your participation. If you’ve filled this out before for another Women’s Fitness Adventures program, please update it if anything has changed.

  • Our team is here to coach you every step of the way, so you can focus on learning, building skills and enjoying the  experience! You are not just signing up for guided walks, your investing in becoming a confident, capable hiker.
