Golden Staircase Waterfall Hike – Saturday 25th May 2019

Golden Staircase Waterfall Hike with Rockhop

Join us on a fully guided hike to one of the more spectacular waterfalls in the Mt Barney region towering 50 metres above the ground.

We first hike to the top of the waterfall on a steep but marked trail before we stop to enjoy the fabulous vista before us and our fabulous “high tea of the bush”

After morning tea we hike back  down to the creek where we rock hop upstream to reach the base of the waterfall – enabling us to capture views from above and below before rock hopping back to the track and returning to the starting point on the same trail.

The hike is graded introductory to moderate due to one sharp hill before reaching the Golden Staircase Waterfall and the rock-hopping involved.

I am reasonably fit but have not done this type of thing before. Is it for me?

If you love the outdoors and are a regular hiker, then this is the adventure for you. We grade this hike as Introductory- Moderate  due to the varied nature of the trail and the rock-hopping section.

The track is well marked however has a few steep sections, so you may get out of breath as your heart rate elevates. Once we reach the top of the waterfall we have time for a relax with our “high tea of the bush”.

We come back down the same trail for a short while before entering the creek for our rock hop to the base of the waterfall.

Our return is the same way.

We have marked this adventure as introductory- moderate for the following reasons and ask you take this into consideration:

1. You are comfortable getting out of breath for short periods of time.

2. You have no known knee or ankle pain issues or past injuries that may hinder your ability to complete the rock hopping section of the hike.

Your Women’s Fitness Adventures C.R.E.W Leader and our professional Wilderness guide are there to support you all the way.

If you would like to discuss your fitness level for this hike, then please contact us at Women’s Fitness Adventures on 0412 121 420 or by email

Can I car pool?

We always ask if anyone wants to share a lift. You can add your request to the closed C.R.E.W Member Facebook Group.

What gear do I need?

We recommend a backpack to carry your water, snacks, lunch, camera, water shoes (optional), and a windproof jacket. Hiking boots/shoes are recommended, however if you have comfortable walking shoes/joggers that are well worn in, then these will be fine. Preference is for shoes with grip on the sole.

How far is the meeting point for the hike from Brisbane?

The meeting point is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Brisbane CBD. Our start time for the hike is 8am, to take advantage of the cooler weather. This does mean an early start if coming from Brisbane. We anticipate being back to the cars/meeting point around  2-3pm in the afternoon (approximately), depending on the pace of the group.

Inclement weather

Please note that although we will endeavour to run this adventure in all weather conditions, some modifications may occur in inclement weather.  If this is the case, we will modify the original program to ensure we can still provide an outdoor fitness adventure of some variety on that day. Should we have to cancel the adventure due to poor weather conditions, you will be advised by text and email the evening before.  Should this occur, alternative arrangements for another date and/or refund will be made.
