This Introductory plus graded adventure sees us hike between the diverse lakes of Fraser Island, taking in THE iconic lakes of McKenzie and Wabby as well as some lesser known, yet equally spectacular ones.

There’s time spent at Lake McKenzie – for swimming, sunset, sunrise and camping.

Our Hiking Adventure is a mixture of motel accommodation and tent accommodation. It’s also a day pack only hike.

Arrival day into Hervey Bay

 

If you are coming from Brisbane, get ready for a half day road trip to Hervey Bay.

Plan to arrive around early afternoon to unwind and relax.

Late afternoon we’ll take a walk along the iconic Urangan Pier in time for sunset.

It’s one of the worlds longest piers, at nearly 1km out to sea, and one of Australia’s oldest at more than 100 years old.

There’s  a welcome beverage and our adventure briefing session before we head out for a Group Welcome Dinner.

It’s the perfect opportunity to relax with your fellow adventurers and ease into the wonderful adventure that awaits.

The Pier at Hervey Bay with Women's Fitness Adventures

Hervey Bay – Lake Benaroon

 

After a hearty breakfast we connect with our guides for our short private 4WD transfer to Fraser Island.

Starting at the trailhead of the Fraser Island Great Walk at Dilli Village, we hike through spectacular forest to Lake Boomanjin.

There’s plenty of opportunity for a swim at this freshwater lake before we have our lunch on the shore.

With satisfied appetities, we then traverse to Lake Benaroon, which is our home for the night.

And then it is time to  relax!

Our support guide has already set up camp and there is a welcoming cheese platter and drink waiting for us.

And that is BEFORE  we tuck in to a wonderfully prepared dinner.

It’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy the evening. Watch the stars, join the conversation and sit in awe of your surroundings.

Lake Benaroon – Lake McKenzie

 

Waking up to your surroundings on this World Heritage Listed Island is something to treasure.

You may opt for an early morning swim to freshen up before we enjoy breakfast in the great outdoors.

Today our hike takes us to Central Station – the heart of Fraser Islands logging history.

With history on show, there is time to wander and take in the “museum” of Central Station before we tuck into a cooked lunch by our support guides.

Full from lunch, we  hike to Lake McKenzie, via Basin Lake.

Lake McKenzie is one of the worlds most photographed lakes and the BEST thing is that crowds should be minimal.

Tonight we camp at Lake McKenzie and on arrival, we find all of our gear is set up.

An adventure is not complete on Fraser Island without a swim in iconic Lake McKenzie with its pure waters and irresistible blue charm.

The choice is yours to swim or simply sit and watch the sunset – with the cheese platter and pre dinner drink close by.

To top it all off, it is dinner under the stars. There aren’t too many people in the world who get to do this!

Lake McKenzie – Kingfisher Resort- Hervey Bay

It’s a great morning to get up early for sunrise on beautiful Lake McKenzie.

Start the morning with a swim and breakfast before our day of hiking.

It’s another lake today – Lake Wabby. Different again to the other lakes we’ve seen, highlighting the diversity of this sand island.

It’s lunchtime at Lake Wabby – this time high on the lookout overlooking the lake.

From here, we descend the sand dune to the sparkling emerald lake that is Lake Wabby and YES, the option for another swim or paddle.

From here we hike out to the Eastern Beach of Fraser Island where our private 4WD transfer awaits.

It’s a short transfer back to Kingfisher Resort where we share a celebration drink before heading back on the late afternoon mainland ferry.

After showering and freshening up, it’s time to go out for our Traditional Women’s Fitness Adventures Celebration and Awards Dinner.

Tonight we celebrate our adventure and recognise and remember the wonderful memories.

It’s a leisurely start to today – no rush.

This morning we enjoy a local cafe breakfast as we sit and watch the world go by.

Perhaps take in the township of Hervey Bay with a walk along the Esplanade.

Maybe a whale watching tour – as it is THE perfect time for whales.

Then at your leisure, it’s time to head for home as we say goodbye to a wonderful adventure on one of the worlds best islands.

ACCOMMODATION

On our Fraser Island Hiking and Camping Adventure is a combination of comfortable motel style rooms and tent accommodation.

Of course, in the hotel there are shower facilities. Out on the island there are numerous fresh water lakes for you to swim or freshen up in.

Our adventure offers 2 nights twin share, motel accommodation and  2 nights in tent accommodation.

MEALS

Our Fraser Island Hiking and Camping Adventure ensures you have food that

not only tastes amazing, but that it also gives you the fuel you need

to get you through the day.

All delicious meals and snacks as per the itinerary are included.

We have designed delicious and nutritious meals to satisfy the hungry hiker along

with snacks and treats to suit all taste buds. Our meals cater for food allergies and intolerances where applicable.

Our Traditional Celebration and Awards Dinner is held on the last evening, at a local restaurant in Hervey Bay.

4 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 4 dinners and all delicious snacks on the trail.

TRAVEL AND TRANSFERS

Our starting point is at the hotel in Hervey Bay and your Women’s Fitness Adventures leader will meet you there.

In addition to your own gear, your C.R.E.W Leaders are carrying Emergency Communications Equipment and a comprehensive Group First Aid Kit

SAFETY

Safety is our number one priority.

Your Women’s Fitness Adventures Leader is fully trained in Remote Area First Aid and holds current CPR Qualifications.

Our local support crew are first aid trained.

In addition, we carry a group first aid kit and emergency communications equipment

All our transportation is provided in commercially registered, expertly maintained  tour vehicles & trailers, with airport and hotel pick up and drop off where applicable.

We work with approved local tourism operators for our accommodation and meal requirements.

With comprehensive track notes and support crew, we share the highlights, points of interest, scenic viewpoints and more.

Supported by local business, you will come away with a greater understanding of this amazing part of Australia.

Our C.R.E.W Leader bring with her an extensive knowledge in training women for multi day hikes.

Your leader has also hiked many of the world’s great trails and know what the sense of achievement is like.

FITNESS TRAINING

One of the most common asked questions is ” Will I be fit enough?”

As soon as you book your Multi Day Adventure, you can get started with training.

Through booking into the adventure early and allowing time to train, those with an introductory plus level of fitness will find this an achieveable goal – provided you put in the training. 

Here’s what you get:

  • Monthly Group Hike Training (for local Brisbane participants)
  • Monthly online Training (non local Brisbane participants)
  • Two online Group Adventure meetings for fitness motivation, hints, tips and Q&A sessions
  • Access to the closed Outback Queensland Fitness Adventure Facebook Group.

Monthly hike training is delivered in a group setting in Brisbane. Whilst this is optional, it is strongly recommended. Past adventurers tell us that Hike Training is great for three reasons:

  1. getting to know the others on your hike
  2. gauging your level of fitness
  3. boosting your fitness

The training program has been developed by Women’s Fitness Adventures, based on years of experience and qualifications in both the fitness industry and hiking in the outdoors.  

FRIENDSHIP

From the moment you book on to the Fraser Island Hiking and Camping Adventure, you will begin to make new friends.

This can be either through the training, the closed Facebook Group, the online meetings or at other adventures.

Once your payment is confirmed, you will be invited into a closed Facebook Group Page that you have access to, where you can converse with your fellow hikers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What you carry

    You will be required to carry a day pack of approximately 5-7kg.

    Your pack will include the following items: minimum of 2 litres water, sunscreen, light raincoat, warm top, swimmers (definitely) & light towel/sarong, lunch, camera, hat and any items of a personal nature, including personal first aid/medications.

    A comprehensive gear list will be supplied and explained once your booking is confirmed.

  • Fitness Level

    We recommend that you have an introductory plus level of fitness for this adventure. You should be able to walk consecutive days, minimum 15km/day, which includes the ability to walk on sand and have a good level of cardio fitness.

    Our goal is to give you the best adventure possible.

    We know, from experience and feedback, that the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the adventure. You are also less likely to sustain an injury.

    Hike Training is included as part of the adventure. The program has been developed by Women’s Fitness Adventures, based on years of experience and qualifications in both the fitness industry and hiking in the outdoors.  

    Brisbane participants have the option of attending monthly hike training sessions. Non Brisbane residents have a monthly call and a training plan written if desired. With plenty of advance notice of the trip and time to train, those with a current introductory  level of fitness will find this an achieveable goal – provided you put in the training.

  • Weather

    As much as we would like to, we have no control over the weather.

    Daytime temperatures may vary from low teens to high 20’s. Night time temperatures may get cold.

    That’s why it’s important to come along with an open mind ready for an awesome experience whatever the weather.

    It is very important you bring the right gear for the conditions.

    As it is a coastal region of Queensland, temperatures can warm up and storms can suddenly arise.

    With our comprehensive gear list and briefing sessions, you will be more than prepared.

    In the event of extreme weather conditions, the adventure may vary from the itinerary.

    Please be aware of this and accept this as part of the adventure. Your personal safety is our highest priority.

    Tour Prices and Deposits Total Price p/p – $2200 members, $2550 non-members.

    Travel insurance must be taken out at the time the deposit is paid. A copy of the insurance certificate must be provided when booking to guarantee a place on the trek.

    Please read carefully the terms and conditions of this contract. These should also be read in conjunction with the website Terms and Conditions. In completing and submitting the Booking Form, you agree to be bound by these conditions which constitute the agreement between Women’s Fitness Adventures ABN 99 126 975 880 and you. No purported variation of these conditions will be effective unless in writing and signed by a person so authorised by Women’s Fitness Adventures. In these terms and conditions reference to “Women’s Fitness Adventures representatives” means staff of Women’s Fitness Adventures and its officers, employees, agents, licensees, guides and other third parties and representatives and the land management authorities in each country in which the tour is conducted, or any of them. For International Adventures please note a passport is required for all international travel and a minimum 6 months validity is required on your passport. Final Itineraries and gear lists and other relevant information will be emailed no later than 14-21 days prior to adventure departure date.

    Price changes can occur between the time you make a reservation and the date of full payment.

    Factors influencing price changes can be currency fluctuations, fuel surcharges, taxes and other provider increases outside of our control.

    Note you must be a financial member AT THE TIME OF YOUR ADVENTURE DEPARTURE to access the member price. If you are not a financial member at the time of your adventure departure you will need to pay the difference between the member and non member price for this adventure.

    • An initial non refundable deposit of 20% is required to secure your place on this adventure.
    • Once a booking is confirmed, payment must be received within the payment terms as advised by Women’s Fitness Adventures in the table below.
    • Failure to pay within the deadline will result in automatic cancellation of your booking.
    • Payments are accepted by direct deposit, by cheque or by credit card. There are no surcharges for bookings made through the Women’s Fitness Adventures website.
    • When your credit card is processed by Women’s Fitness Adventures you agree to not have your payment ‘charged back’ or reversed by your credit card provider where the services have been provided.

    • Please ensure your Travel Insurance covers you for cancellation, medical and repatriation expenses, personal injury and accident, death, loss of personal baggage and money and personal liability insurance. It is also important to read the fine print in relation to parents over the age of 80 and what is included/excluded from your policy. If using your credit card insurance, please check the terms and conditions on this before booking with us.

    Women’s Fitness Adventures and its partners are not liable for any out of pocket expenses that insurance will not cover and will not be held responsible financially or in kind should your insurance not cover your personal circumstances.

    Itineraries and other details are published in good faith as statements of intention only and reasonable changes in the itinerary and related items may be made where deemed necessary or advisable by Women’s Fitness Adventures.

    The information contained in Women’s Fitness Adventures website, Facebook Pages, brochures, itineraries, and any other published content, is to the best of Women’s Fitness Adventures knowledge, correct at the time of publication.

    Route changes, Postponement, Cancellation or Delay

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to:

    • Cancel or modify any routes within the adventures or objectives set out in the itinerary; or
    • Substitute different or equivalent routes within the adventures in place of cancelled or modified routes, or 
    • Postpone, cancel or delay (either in relation to the departure or arrival times or the duration of the adventures) any such aspect of the tour if, at the absolute discretion of Women’s Fitness Adventures, it is necessary to do so due to inclement weather, snow or icy conditions or conditions that are otherwise likely to be hazardous or dangerous or due to any other adverse or threatening conditions whether political or military or terrorist or otherwise or if, in the absolute discretion of Women’s Fitness Adventures there is a likelihood of any such event occurring which may impact upon the safety of the participants, or if an act or omission of a third party prevents the tour or the aspect of the tour being undertaken in accordance with your booking or for any other reason considered necessary by Women’s Fitness Adventures.
    • In the event of any change, modification, cancellation postponement or delay under this condition, you acknowledge that you will have no right of refund of the adventure price (whether in whole or in part) and no right to claim compensation for any injury, loss or damage or other additional expenses incurred by virtue of the change, modification, cancellation postponement or delay.
    • Women’s Fitness Adventures also reserves, at its absolute discretion, the right to cancel any tour due to any government travel warning or advice, or any change in such warning or advice. Travel insurance may compensate you depending on the circumstances.

     

    Cancellation by Women’s Fitness Adventures.

     

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel a departure and will advise you of such cancellations, where possible, no later than 60 days before the adventure departure date.

    If due to ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice, Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel a departure at any time. With any form of cancellation, Women’s Fitness Adventures will do it’s best to offer you alternative arrangements if available, and if the price of your alternative adventure is of lower value than the original booking we will refund the difference to you. If you do not accept alternative arrangements we will offer Travel Credits for any payments you have made to Women’s Fitness Adventures, (in case of ‘Force Majeure’ or government travel advice Travel Credits will be less any unrecoverable costs). Women’s Fitness Adventures will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by you

    Force Majeure Women’s Fitness Adventures will not be liable for any delay in, change to or cancellation of trips due to ‘Force Majeure’. ‘Force Majeure’ definition means a circumstance beyond the reasonable control of Women’s Fitness Adventures and includes, but is not limited to, war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, disease, industrial or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire and strikes.

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserve the right either before or during the course of the adventure to refuse to carry or accommodate any client which it reasonably considers, in the light of the best interests of all participants within the adventure group and crew, to be unsuitable by reason of physical or mental condition or unruly behaviour.

    Specifically Covid-19 for the Fraser Island Hiking and Camping  Adventure

    Please note that if we are unable to conduct this adventure due to Queensland and/or Australian Government restrictions imposed around travel due to Covid-19 then the following will apply:

    1. If the adventure is postponed 8 days or more out from the departure date you will have the option to transfer straight over to the same adventure at another date at no additional expense or receive a refund or Travel Credit less a $75 administration fee.

    2. If the adventure is postponed 7 days or less out from the departure date you will receive a refund less $150 unrecoverable costs.

    Cancellation due to small adventure numbers. 

    Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right to cancel any adventure prior to departure in the event that there are too few people booked on the adventure. In this case, you will be given a full refund of the amount already paid by you. You will not be entitled to claim any additional amounts or seek any compensation for any injury, loss, expenses or damage (either direct or consequential) or for any loss of time or inconvenience which may result from such cancellation (including but not limited to visa, passport and vaccination charges, or departure, gear purchases, airport and airline taxes or annual leave).

    We require a minimum of 6 trekkers for Fraser Island Hiking and Camping  Adventure. If numbers do not reach this level we reserve the right to cancel, or change the dates of the adventure or refer you to another existing adventure.

    Adventure numbers are regularly reviewed and we will notify you of any cancellations no later than 60 days prior to your selected trek.

    Medical Disclosure. It is your responsibility and you must advise women’s Fitness Adventures of any pre-existing medical condition and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of you requiring medical attention while on our tours. Women’s Fitness Adventures or our suppliers may require additional medical assessment by a medical practitioner. Women’s Fitness Adventures reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your booking and refund the money paid by you, less any unrecoverable costs. Women’s Fitness Adventures also reserves the right to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
